How to get recommended by ChatGPT
You cannot make ChatGPT recommend you, but you can make your business the easy, safe one to name. That is a matter of clarity, consistency, and retrievable evidence.
You cannot make ChatGPT recommend your business. There is no setting, keyword, file, or payment that produces a mention. What you can do is make yours the business ChatGPT finds easiest and safest to name when someone asks for a recommendation — and that is entirely within reach.
When ChatGPT answers “who should I use for this,” it has to state facts it can stand behind. If it cannot establish what you do, where, or whether the claims about you hold up, it describes a business it understands better instead. The goal is to be that better-understood business.
Understand what ChatGPT is working with
ChatGPT knows about your business in two ways: what its model absorbed during training, up to a cut-off date, and what it can retrieve live when browsing or search is available. Training data can be stale and cannot be corrected on demand; live retrieval reflects the current web but only if your information is findable and fetchable. If neither can produce clear facts about you, you will not be named.
Make your identity unmistakable
Use one business name, written the same way, everywhere. Distinguish yourself from similar names in similar places. If ChatGPT cannot tell that your website, listing, and profiles describe the same company, it treats them as weaker, separate records — and confusion favours whoever is clearer.
Describe services and area concretely
ChatGPT matches questions to businesses semantically, not by keyword. Name your services in customer language and name the places you serve. Concrete, bounded descriptions can be matched to far more real questions than abstractions like “quality solutions.” Stating what you do not do helps too, by keeping you out of answers you would lose anyway.
Make your claims checkable elsewhere
A claim corroborated in a public register, a professional body, or genuine reviews is safer for ChatGPT to repeat than one that appears only on your own site. Make real evidence easy to find. Never fabricate it — invented reviews and credentials are detectable and frequently unlawful, and they undermine the trust you are trying to build.
Answer real questions in retrievable text
Publish plain answers to the questions customers ask before choosing, near the top of the page, as text a crawler can actually read. Content buried under preamble or locked in images gives ChatGPT little to quote. Answer first, elaborate after.
Check across assistants, and repeat
ChatGPT is one system among several, and Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Copilot may answer the same question differently because they use different sources and ranking. Ask each of them the questions your customers ask, record the answers, and re-check over time. None of this guarantees a mention in ChatGPT or anywhere else; it removes the reasons you are currently left out.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I pay ChatGPT to recommend my business?
- No. ChatGPT does not sell recommendations, and there is no placement to buy. What influences whether it names you is whether it can find, understand, and safely repeat accurate information about your business.
- Does ChatGPT use a fixed algorithm I can optimise for?
- There is no single fixed algorithm to reverse-engineer. ChatGPT relies partly on training data and partly on live retrieval where available, and its behaviour changes across versions. Strategies tied to one product's current behaviour are fragile; being accurate and consistent survives changes.
